
What do you think of when you hear the term ‘New Technology’? iPhones and the internet? Artificial intelligence and algorithms? ‘New’ is relative. At one point in history, television was a pioneering and petrifying modern concept. In a time before that, the humble book was considered by some as a dangerous new idea.
This blog will explore the new technology of our time and the ways in which it has shaped how we read and write poetry. I believe that literature, in all shapes and forms, is just as much as an influence on human culture and society as is itself influenced by human culture and society. Like a watermill, driven by the momentum of each other, we drag literature along with us as it evolves and pulls us around in turn. We may not have much control over the bigger picture, the way people all over the world feel and think, but poets and creative writers have a tool. This tool, whether in the shape of a pen, a laptop, social media, spoken word, or whatever, has some sort of power over the way in which the wheel turns. Let’s hope it is being steered the right way…
